What does belonging to a church mean?  In the early years just after the ascension of Jesus, church meant believers coming together to hear the stories of Christ's life, share stories of their own lives, pray together, and eat a meal together that concluded with the Lord's Supper.  You can see how this gathering intertwined Jesus' story and life with the disciples' stories and lives.  This is why it has been part of our culture for so long.  This is what becoming a part of Jesus' family means, this is how it's done, and this is why it works.
